about

I wrote this as a children’s song taking bits and pieces of that common childhood ditty “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring.” I always sang to my children just as I was sung to as a child. I made sure that my kids knew poetry, nursery rhymes and songs and were aware of the sights and sounds around them. When my daughter was around 6 years old, we lived in a trailer near the coast in Oregon. Because it rained often, we listened to the sound of the rain on our metal roof. One day, she put pots, pans and other containers on the ground outside of her bedroom window to listen to the variety of sounds there could be during a rainstorm. Once this song was finished, we decided it should be a music video for kids. We invited a bunch of friends over for a live performance and video shoot. It was so much fun! You can the video for this song on YouTube.

lyrics

It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring
He bumped his head when he went to bed and didn’t get up in the morning
Oh dear, what do I hear? The rain is falling everywhere.
Oh my, look at the sky I just got a raindrop in my eye
It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground

Dee deedly drip drop drip drop drip drip drop
Dee deedly drip drop drip drop, oh
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground

I know it makes the gardens grow and the flowers smell so sweet
And I like to listen to that syncopated beat

Dee deedly drip drop drip drop drip drip drop
Dee deedly drip drop drip drop, oh
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground

I know it makes the gardens grow and the flowers smell so sweet
And I like to listen to that syncopated beat

Dee deedly drip drop drip drop drip drip drop
Dee deedly drip drop drip drop, oh
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground

Rain, rain go away come again another day
Everybody wants to play so won’t you go away
Ho hum, where’s the sun? I want to go outside for fun
Hey, hey what do you say I really don’t mind a rainy day
It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is snoring
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground

Dee deedly drip drop drip drop drip drip drop
Dee deedly drip drop drip drop, oh
Listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground
I said listen to that melody of raindrops on the ground
