about

I started writing this song in the early 1990s while working in a preschool. One of my jobs was reading and singing to the young ones at nap time. I’ve always sung to my children and grandchildren and have plenty of lullabies but, I started to get bored singing the same ones. I didn’t get far with this one and, when my youngest was too old for lullabies, I set it aside. Then my granddaughter came along, so I sang it to her. This time, it went a little further. When I was thinking about this CD and going through my files of old song ideas, this one jumped out at me. I finished it and played it for my partner who has been invaluable in putting this project together. He suggested that it be included on the CD. I’m glad he did. The song means a lot to me.

lyrics

Lullaby, twilight is fading, time to close your eyes
Dream away through worlds of splendor, watching the full moon rise
Sail away to lands unknown, stars will show the way
Wake up in the morning to a brand a new day

Lullaby, lullaby
Close your eyes and rest while I sing this lullaby

When you wake, the world will be waiting, you can look around
But for now, lay down your head, and listen to the sounds
Sail away to lands unknown, stars will show the way
Wake up in the morning to a brand a new day

Lullaby, lullaby
Close your eyes and rest while I sing this lullaby, lullaby
Close your eyes and rest
Close your eyes and rest
Close your eyes and rest while I sing
