As I get older, I realize that I want to be telling my stories. I’ve spent a lifetime collecting them. This song came to me in the fall of 2020 during the pandemic. It was easy to fall into a slump during that time. We were approaching the presidential election with a nation in turmoil and were facing a long, isolated winter. Everyone was still worried about the spread of the virus but tired of the restrictions. I wanted to write a song and was getting nowhere so, as I often do when stuck, I put a partial capo on my guitar which changes the tuning. Then I let my fingers do whatever they wanted. Once the music came, the rest flowed fairly easily. Gaetano and Matt captured the mood that I was looking for in this song.

the chilly wind has blown the leaves around
it’s time to stoke the fire sit in the candlelight
make it through an empty endless night

the world it whirls around my vertigo kicks in
I find that I am looking at my sins

I find there is a lot I have to say
