about

I am often inspired to create music while I’m driving. I think it must be the monotony or the hum of the engine. During my second winter living here, I often drove home after dark. I quickly noticed the moon reflecting on the Hudson River as I left Albany on the highway. I also noticed that the constellation Orion was often in front of me leading the way home. I’ve often noticed that constellation in my travels, and he is mostly a winter visitor. While noticing these things, I also realized how much my life had changed. I was starting over again, and everything still felt new. It was like being in a dream. I was looking forward to being home with warmth of the wood stove and my wonderful love who always walked outside, sometimes down two flights of stairs, to greet me. Once all of the melody and most of the lyrics were done, I felt like the dulcimer was the perfect instrument for it. Eventually, it became my second music video.

lyrics

In winter, the moon is on the river
Reflecting those promises once made
In winter, my body starts to shiver
The North Wind takes my breath away

And I’m thinking about tonight, what the future will bring
I’m trying to plan and scheme, think about everything
I’m thinking about tonight, I’ll be there with you
In the soft glow of firelight and dreams

In winter, there’s stars too dense to number
Homeward, Orion leads the way
In winter, I snuggle down to slumber
Starting to sleep my life away

Then I’m thinking about tonight, what the future will bring
I’m trying to plan and scheme, think about everything
I’m thinking about tonight, I’ll be there with you
In the soft glow of firelight and dreams

In winter, flurries past my window
Leaving snow along the road
In winter, I skate into tomorrow
Dropping my sometimes heavy load

And I’m thinking about tonight, what the future will bring
I’m trying to plan and scheme, think about everything
I’m thinking about tonight, I’ll be there with you
In the soft glow of firelight and dreams
In winter
